Hi everyone,
I sat down to create my card for Mother’s Day last night and all of a sudden every ounce of creativity seemed to leave my body. This, regrettably, is not a new phenomenon. After a little vent which went something along the lines of “Right about now I wish I bought cards like normal (read: sane) people do!” and a bit of a pep talk from my gorgeous friend, Kerrie, I put aside what I had been working on and went to have a look at my stamps in an attempt to kick start my creativity again. I randomly pulled open a drawer and an older Penny Black stamp jumped out at me (not literally, of course!). The stamp in question – “Flower Friend” (508H). Unfortunately, I don’t think it is available any more.
I stamped the image a couple of times, in case I messed up the first attempt, and set to it. I used the Tim Holtz Distress Markers to paint the image as I love to paint. Once dry I attached the image to some American Crafts cardstock. This panel was then attached to a card which I had already covered with some really pretty Basic Grey scrapbook paper from the “Urban Prairie” 6×6 Paper Pad. I had planned to add some ribbon but I didn’t have the right shade at hand so I thought that I might give it a bit of extra pop by adding a grey line. Here’s where I went wrong – I didn’t test the Basic Grey paper before adding the Distress Markers and water. It really absorbed into the paper and also got blotchy. TIP: Test your paper first! It wasn’t a deal breaker though (and I really didn’t have the time to start from scratch). I finished off the card with some “Tiny Alphabet Stickers: White” from KaiserCraft The best part is that my Mum loves the card! The next best part is that I have re-discovered an old stamp which I love! I am already planning to make a few more cards using this stamp. I think we sometimes get so excited by all the new stamps/products which are constantly being released that we forget all about the wonderful gems we already own. *steps down from soapbox*
Apologies for the dodgy photograph; I snapped it late last night while still sitting at my craft desk.
I hope all the Mum’s have a very happy day today. To my own Mum, I love you very much!
Happy Stamping!
