Hi Everyone,
Decided it was time to play along in another of the Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenges. This week is their Designer Drafts Challenge where they post a sketch to inspire you. When I first saw the sketch, I knew I had the most PERFECT Lawn Fawn stamps for the challenge….but nothing I thought was suitable in the Paper Smooches range. Uh Oh! lol You see, I got a little bogged down on wanting to recreate the sketch exactly as posted. I toyed with the idea for a couple of days and finally decided I just had to jump on in (especially since the challenge ends tomorrow. haha).

Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge – August Designer Drafts Challenge
The card is, shall we say, bright! I had an idea for the background which didn’t quite go to plan. With a burst of frustration I swiped the distress pad across the background so it was a bright blue. Then I spritzed water on it with the idea of just throwing it away at the end. Instead, I really liked how it looked. Decided to keep the bottom part white, and add glitter to make it look a little snowy (I’m sorry this doesn’t really show up in the photograph). Oh and my tip for today: Prime your glitter bottle on a scrap piece of paper so when the lid pops off and empties the rest of the bottle of glitter on your paper, you haven’t ruined your entire project.
So, here’s the card for today. Not completely loving it but I am feeling pretty chuffed that I managed to complete something for the challenge when I had initially struggled to move away from the hot-air balloon idea.

Materials used: Stamps – Forest Whimsy (Paper Smooches); Cardstock – American Crafts, Knights; Distress Inks; Distress Markers; Glossy Accents (Ranger) and Distress Stickles – Star Dust (Ranger).

LOL! I have had that happen to me before– finding the perfect design for a challenge and it ended up being the wrong stamps/etc! LOL! Glad you were able to make something for this sketch– you did a FAB job! I LOVE that gnome! He’s sooooooo cute! LOVE the glittered snow too! AWESOME! You’ve captured the inspiration sketch perfectly! Your gnome is soooo handsome sporting his green toque, and the Christmas-y mushrooms are darling! Happy dancing that you found time to join in this challenge! Yayyy!! My opinion: WINNER!!! Heading home today…have to pack and shed tears (lots!!!).
